Family Compound

Bridgehampton, New York

“This estate compound was designed to have multiple structures unfold across the site to compose a private family retreat with resort-style amenities.

At the core of the retreat is the Main House, an 18,000 square foot home with details inspired by the work of the acclaimed early 20th century architects Grosvenor Atterbury and Stanford White, and drawing precedent from Sir Edwin Lutyens, David Adler and John Staub.   The classic American country home utilizes roof lines and shallow eaves reminiscent of the shingle style.  The core of the home is designed for hospitality; a gracious entry gallery leads into a grand entertaining salon.  From here, the home extends outward with more intimate spaces designed for family gatherings and enjoyment, including a Field Room with windows that extend from the floor to the soaring ceilings, providing sweeping views across the estate and surrounding fields.  A family kitchen and casual dining area are supported by a chef’s kitchen and pantry, fully equipped with commercial and catering equipment.  A luxurious master wing, complete with a dressing room, sitting room, his/her offices and a private rooftop terrace, is found on the upper level.  The opposite wing contains multiple guest suites, each with a private bath.  The lower level houses a theater room, wine cellar, game room, snack kitchen, gym and sauna.

Adjacent to the main auto court at the front of the home, a porte cochere provides shelter for the family and staff entry.  Beyond, and concealed from view by the porte cochere, is a private auto court and 4-bay Carriage House with staff quarters above.   Nearby, lush landscaping, a shade trellis, and a Pool House cradle the outdoor pool and spa providing a measure of privacy.  The open-air Pool House has resort-style amenities, including a kitchen, gathering room, changing rooms, a fireplace and outdoor showers.  Nestled on the opposite side of the estate, sits a Sports Barn.  Designed to be reminiscent of a historic potato barn, a nod to the history of the region and site, the Sports Barn houses an indoor pool, gym, sauna and steam room.  It also provides gathering rooms adjacent to the estate’s play lawn and tennis court.”
